The Theory
In the theory section of the lab report, the theory of the
lab will be stated. As with a thesis statement, the theory is presented
as a fact, not a suggestion or an idea. Also included in this section
is a sentence or two explaining the theoretical foundations of the lab,
so that the stated theory has a supporting context.
This is not the “PURPOSE” section. Do not write
“the purpose of this lab is to . . .” or any similar line. Simply
state the theory, and the reader will know that the purpose of the lab
is to test the theory.
