Entering List Data

The TI-82 has a special memory area for keeping long lists (up to 99 elements) of related numbers.  The list editor looks a lot like a spread-sheet program on a computer, and in fact there are a number of similarities between the two.  However, one important difference is that you have only 6 columns to work with and they are already named for you (L1 - L6).

You must have your experimental data in the calculator's list memory to do either a Data Plot or a Regression.  Follow the steps below to enter this sample data set into your TI-82's memory.

    1. Use left and right arrows to move between columns.
    2. Use up and down arrows to move between elements in a column.
    3. Press the [ENTER] key after typing in each number. (Unlike a spread-sheet, you do not need to "save" the lists after you are done, each number is written to that calculators long-term memory as soon as you press [ENTER].)
  5. Your screen should look like this when you are done (if you have left your cursor at the bottom of L2).  You will notice that the calculator drops the "trailing" zeroes from each number.

(NOTE: This data is used for the data plot and regressions examples as well.)
